MVPD Arrest Man Following Unsuccessful Flee Attempt; Charges Include Fourth Operating While Intoxicated

A 27-year-old Evansville man is behind bars in Posey County after authorities say he tried unsuccessfully to flee from Mt. Vernon police.  It was about 1:05am Sunday when an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Jeep Renegade driven by Kalen Fuchs.  The officer says when he activated his emergency lights, the vehicle accelerated, continued running stop signs, drove through an alley, and also through yards and private property on Elm in an attempt to evade the officer.  Along the way, the vehicle reportedly nearly collided with several parked vehicles before driving into a grass field at the end of Sycamore and later crashing into a ditch at the dead end of East Water Street.  The impact was enough to cause airbags to deploy.  The report indicates the passenger in Fuchs vehicle surrendered immediately while Fuchs attempted to flee before being run down by an officer.  A subsequent portable breath test registered Fuchs with a .158 BAC.  Officers also found suspected marijuana in the vehicle along with several bottles of beer, some full and some empty, inside the Jeep.  The passenger was given a misdemeanor citation and released.  Fuchs is being held on charges of Resisting Law Enforcement and Operating while Intoxicated with a prior (MVPD Chief Justin Rutledge says it’s his fourth), both of those charges are Level 6 Felonies.  Additionally, Fuchs faces charges of Possession of Marijuana and Reckless Driving.  He also picked up five citations.
