On November 15, 2016, friends, students, staff, and benefactors of Carmi Pre-K gathered to dedicate a very special addition to the Pre-K playground. An extraordinary early childhood Music Wall, built by Weber Construction, was dedicated to the memory of Elizabeth (Beth) Ann Hunter (1997-2002). Beth was a Pre-K student who died of neuroblastoma in July of 2002. At the time of what would have been her high school graduation, a private donation was made in her memory. The Pre-K staff, knowing that the program would be moving to Washington School, decided to use the donation to enhance the new playground that was to be built. Beth loved being outdoors, and she loved music, so it was decided to build a music wall for the Pre-K schoolyard. A WalMart Community Grant supplemented the private contribution, and Troy Weber and his entire family worked together to conceive and create a most unique, beautiful, and absolutely enjoyable Music and Chime Wall.
The dedication ceremony was especially blessed by the presence of Beth’s little sister, Christy. Some of those gathered shared their own special memories of Beth before Christy Hunter and the Weber family unveiled the music wall. A sign with Beth’s picture appears at the top of the structure, and the caption reads: “Dedicated to the memory of Beth Hunter, a much-loved Pre-K friend. 1997-2002.”
Carmi Pre-K wants to thank the private contributors and WalMart for making this wonderful opportunity possible. Children and families for years to come will get to appreciate the joy that Beth Hunter gave to all who knew her.
