The following subjects were arrested by the Mt. Carmel Police Department. All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
05/13/2016-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 24 year old Jessica A. Burgett of Sumner, Illinois after she was accused of attempting to take a controlled substance without legal justification from the Mt. Carmel CVS Pharmacy. Burgett was an employee of CVS prior to the arrest. Burgett was transported to the Wabash County Jail and held pending the posting of $500.00 cash bond. Burgett was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Mt. Carmel Police went to 1401 W. 3rd Street with DCFS to investigate a domestic situation that had occurred the previous evening. During the investigation it was determined that 29 year old Gerald W. Smith would be arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. During the arrest Smith became combative with the responding officers and had to be wrestled to the ground. Smith was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with domestic battery and resisting/obstructing a police officer. Smith was held pending the posting of $500.00 cash.
Mt. Carmel Police were called to Family Dollar reference shop lifters inside of their store. When Police arrived on scene a male suspect exited the doors of Family Dollar and began to walk away. When the suspect saw the police he ran back into the store throwing the items he had stolen back on a shelf. Police were able to place the suspect under arrest. The suspect male was identified as 24 year old James V. Breen of Mt. Carmel. A second suspect was also arrested and identified as 36 year old Shannon R. Dill of Mt. Carmel. Both subjects were transported to the Wabash County Jail where they were charged with retail theft. Both subjects were held on $150.00 cash bond.
05/13/2016-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 43 year old Susan R. Catt of Mt. Carmel after she was observed operating a motor vehicle in the 300 block of W. 9th Street. The arresting officer knew Catt was suspended and stopped her vehicle. Catt was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged with driving while suspended.
Mt. Carmel Police arrested 40 year old Amy L. Wheeler of Mt. Carmel after they saw her at McDonald’s in Mt. Carmel. The arresting officer reported seeing Wheeler get into a 1997 Dodge being driven by Chastidy Byrns of Mt. Carmel. A records check indicated that Wheeler was wanted on a failure to appear warrant out of Hamilton County, Illinois. The vehicle was stopped and Wheeler was placed into custody. Wheeler was transported to the Wabash County Jail and held pending the posting of bond.
05/14/2016-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 50 year old Tamara K. Humphrey of Mt. Carmel after she was stopped for a traffic violation in the 200 block of W. 9th Street. During the traffic stop the arresting officer reported that Humphrey appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Humphrey was subsequently arrested for DUI and transported to the Wabash County Jail. Humphrey was cited for DUI and held pending the posting of bond.
