Maunie Man Recovering; Norris City Man Jailed Following Alleged Battery Friday

A Norris City man is behind bars while a Maunie man is recovering from injuries sustained in what the White County Sheriff’s Office is calling an Aggravated Battery Friday.  The victim, 41 year old Charles Oberlender was reportedly taken to an Evansville hospital for surgery.  The suspect, 39 year old Curtis Moss was in court for a first appearance Monday morning on a felony charge of Aggravated Battery and a Misdemeanor charge of Disorderly Conduct.  Circumstances that led to the incident aren’t exactly clear according to the report.  Moss did admit to hitting Oberlender, but claimed it was in self defense the incident report indicates.  Moss also allegedly admitted to a deputy that he and his wife had been using meth through the night.  Moss was taken into custody and jailed.  He’ll appear in court before Judge Webb again Wednesday morning for a bail review.  A preliminary hearing has also been scheduled for September 11th.
