Local Sports Recap – February 7, 2025

WROY/WRUL Local Sports Recap

The Carmi-White County Girls Basketball team defeated Flora last night on the road by a final score of 44-43.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed by 9 in the 4th quarter, but they were able to climb all the way back, tying the game with under a minute left. Flora had the ball and a chance to win in the final seconds but a costly turnover gave Carmi a chance to win it. Caroline Simmons’ jump shot was not good, but Torrie Rider was able to get the offensive rebound and draw a foul. Rider would hit one of two free throws to give the Lady Bulldogs the one point win.

Carmi improves to 16-9 on the year and they finished the conference slate with a 8-2 BDC East record, clinching at least a share of the conference championship. Hamilton County will play Fairfield next Wednesday, if Hamilton County loses the Lady Bulldogs win the BDC Championship outright, if Hamilton County wins the two teams will share the BDC title.

The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Gallatin County on Monday night before returning home for their final two home games of the year, hosting Harrisburg on Wednesday and Woodlawn on Thursday.

The Carmi-White County Boys Basketball team will make the road trip to Flora tonight to face the Wolves. The Bulldogs come in with a 9-13 record and 2-4 record in the BDC. Flora is 7-15 on the year, and they are also 2-4 in the BDC. The Bulldogs are looking to avenge a 53-49 loss to Flora back on December 13th.

Senior Gavin Holloman is expected to make his return to the floor tonight after missing the last 8 games with an ankle injury.

Fans can watch and listen to tonight’s game on 97.3 FM WRUL and the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel. Varsity will tip-off at around 7:20 PM.

The Carmi-White County Wrestling team will host the IHSA Regional Wrestling tournament at McDougal-Evers Gymnasium. 12 teams will be competing for a chance to move on to sectionals. Competition begins tomorrow morning at 9 AM.
