WROY/WRUL Local Sports Recap
The Carmi-White County Boys Basketball team went 2-0 over the weekend, defeating Grayville on Friday and Eldorado on Saturday.
Friday’s win was a grind for the Bulldogs, they fell behind by 13 early in the 2nd quarter, but then history was made which sparked a comeback. Mitchel Edwards hit a three-pointer to cut the Grayville lead to 10, and with that three-point basket, Edwards became the all-time leading scorer in CWCHS Boys Basketball History.
The Bulldogs trailed by 10 at halftime, but they would outscore Grayville 49-30 in the 2nd half , thanks in part to 41 points from Edwards, to come away with a 73-64 win.
Along with his historic night, Edwards is just the 2nd Bulldog to ever score 40 points in a game twice.
Carmi then turned around on Saturday to host Eldorado, and Carmi led from tip-off until the final buzzer, defeating the Eagles 65-40.
The Bulldogs have now won two in a row after a 5-game losing streak, their record now sits at 9-12. Head Coach Kevin Wolff thinks this weekend could be the spark his team needed heading into the final month of the regular season.
The Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Edwards County for a Black Diamond Conference battle. Carmi will then have another conference road game on Friday as they head to Flora.
The Carmi-White County Girls Basketball team will host Hamilton County tonight at McDougal-Evers Gymnasium. The Lady Bulldogs come into tonight’s game with a 15-7 record, and a 7-1 record in the Black Diamond Conference. With a win tonight, the Lady Bulldogs will clinch their second consecutive Black Diamond Conference East Championship. Tonight is also senior night, before the game the Lady Bulldogs will honor their lone senior, Ashlyn Rager.
