The Carmi Kiwanis Club met at noon on Thursday, February 22nd at the Farm Bureau Building. Eric Ralphs led the meeting. Ricki Pollard won the 50/50 Raffle.
Keith Hoskins inducted new member Denny Hydrick. Denny is the Executive Director of the Baptist Children’s Home. He and his wife Suzanne have moved here from Mississippi with their family. They have four children. Morgan is a student at MS State, Bradley is a student at SIC, Laura and Addison are both students in Carmi.
Jeremy Jordan thanked everyone for their help with Pancake Day. It was a big success.
Dr. Doug Sheffer spoke to the club about Cardiology. He is part of St. Vincent Medical Group Cardiology. The Practice location in Carmi is located at Wabash Christian Therapy & Medical Clinic at 1112 Oak Street. Dr. Sheffer says that he tells everyone that he is right across the street from Huck’s. Dr. Sheffer was born in Harrisburg and then moved to Carbondale. He grew up working at his parent’s hardware store. He graduated from Quincy University where he got to play golf and tennis. Dr. Sheffer graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. His Residency was at the University of Utah Hospital. His Fellowship was at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He now lives in Evansville with his wife and daughter.
Dr. Sheffer went over the risk factors for a heart attack. He encourages avoiding fad diets. Adopting a healthy life style and listening to your body when it comes to exercise are the best things you can do. Dr. Sheffer spoke highly of his team of doctors.
