Home improvement classes set for fall at RLC

Make improvements to your home this fall with several do-it-yourself projects, brought to you through classes by instructor Wayne Kulich and Rend Lake College. Learn to build a fire pit, weather-proof your home, and repair drywall just in time for cold weather.

Kulich’s first class, Landscaping with Bricks and Blocks, will focus on landscaping from a brick patio to fancy flower beds. Participants will also learn how to build their own fire pit, all without the use of concrete. The class meets from 9 a.m. – noon, Saturday, Sept. 10.

In October, learn to protect your home from cold weather with Kulich’s Weatherization class. Topics in this course include tricks to help reduce energy costs, replace a door or window, and check airflow. The class meets from 9 a.m. – noon, Saturday, Oct. 8.

Finally, Kulich will teach Basic Drywall Repair, which includes techniques for mending small to large holes, replacing water damage to drywall, and taping and mudding a piece of drywall. The class meets from 9 a.m. – noon, Saturday, Nov. 12.

Each class costs $15 and meets in the Vocational Building, Room 103, on the Ina campus. To learn more about these home improvement classes or to register, contact RLC’s Community and Corporate Education Division at 618-437-5321, Ext. 1714.
