Fairfield Memorial Hospital to host PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) Training:
Fairfield Memorial Hospital will hold the next Pediatric Advanced Life Support class on October 18th at 9 a.m. The cost is $30 for the PALS course. Should a CPR card be needed, there will be an additional $10 charge. These classes will be held in the Medical Arts Complex, Educational Rooms. Future class dates for Pediatric Advanced Life Support classes are as follows: December 4th, February 8th, and April 5th. Please register one week prior to class, if possible. Upcoming dates for Advanced Cardiac Life Support ($30 class fee): November 17th, January 4th, March 8th, and May 1st.
Diabetes Support Group:
Join FMH on Tuesday, October 3rd for the Diabetes Support Group Meeting. They are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the FMH Medical Arts Complex Community Education Room.
CPR Classes:
Fairfield Memorial Hospital holds CPR Classes monthly on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. You must preregister by calling 618-847-8367. This month’s CPR class is scheduled for Wednesday, October 4th.
Multiple Sclerosis Support Group:
The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Support Group will meet Saturday, October 7th from 11 a.m. – 12 noon, located in the Harlan Yates Board Room found in FMH Medical Arts Complex. The MS Support Group meets the first Saturday of each month.
Cancer Care Support Group:
Fairfield Memorial Hospital holds a Cancer Support Group meeting once a month on the second Thursday of the each month from 6-7 p.m. in the Medical Arts Complex (MAC) Community Education Room, with the next meeting being held, Thursday, October 12th.
Book Fair:
Fairfield Memorial Hospital will be holding their Book Fair on Tuesday, October 10th from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Medical Arts Complex (MAC) Community Education Room. All proceeds benefit the Skilled Care Unit Activities and Fairfield Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Coffee Club:
Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s Senior Life Solutions will hold the next Coffee Club from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 19th. The Coffee Club meets monthly at the Kontiki and is open to older adults.
Carmi Corn Days Parade
Are you attending the Corn Days Parade, October 14th at 4 p.m.? If so, be sure to look for FMH handing out some goodies along the parade route! FMH staff will be wearing bright yellow shirts!
Reduced Rate Labs
Fairfield Memorial Hospital will be holding Reduced Rate Labs and have added a Saturday opportunity! Patients can get Reduced Rate Labs October 16-21 from 7 – 10 a.m., at FMH, October 16-20 from 8:30 – 10 a.m. at Horizon Healthcare, and October 16, 18, and 20 from 7 – 9 a.m. in Albion at the Edwards County Health Department. No Appointment Needed!

Flu Shot Clinics
Horizon Healthcare will be offering Flu Shot Clinics on the following dates for those 11+ years and older. The flu shots are being offered at no cost to those presenting Medicare Part B or Medicaid Card. “A Matter of Balance” Program for Senior Adults:
Many older adults experience a fear of falling. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. To address this concern, Fairfield Memorial Hospital will be offering an A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls program that is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. A Matter of Balance includes eight two-hour sessions for a small group led by trained facilitators from FMH, Susie Devoy, RN, Director of Senior Life Solutions and Jennifer Bower, PTA, Director of Therapy Services. The first A Matter of Balance Fall Program will begin on Tuesday, October 3 and will meet Tuesday and Thursday for a total of 8 sessions from 12:30-2:30 p.m. in Fairfield Memorial Hospital Medical Arts Complex Community Education Room in Fairfield. During the course, participants will learn to:
- View falls as controllable
- Set goals for increasing activity
- Make changes to reduce fall risk at home
- Exercise to increase strength and balance
The program was designed to benefit community-dwelling older adults who:
- Are concerned about falls
- Have sustained falls in the past
- Restrict activities because of concerns about falling
- Are interested in improving flexibility, balance and strength
- Are age 60 or older, ambulatory and able to problem solve

Students and parents are encouraged to stop at the Fairfield Memorial Hospital and Health Careers Education booths at the Fairfield Community High School College and Career Fair on Tuesday, October 17th from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. at the FCHS Gym.
