FMH MAMMOGRAPHY UPGRADE

The most exciting Mammography advancement is in store for the Diagnostic Imaging Department at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. The Coach and Mammography machine is being upgraded to the latest technology enhancements with the purchase of a new Hologic Mammography Machine with 3D and Tomosynthesis capabilities. Tomosynthesis is a new technology in the fight against cancer that allows physicians the ability to examine a woman’s breast tissue one layer at a time. This new technology reduces “call-backs” by up to 40% and increases cancer detection. It also offers women in the community a more accurate, clinically proven breast cancer screening technology.

“Early detection of breast cancer is key, and we are blessed with the opportunity to bring forth the newest technology for our community members.  Fairfield Memorial Hospital continues to enhance and expand our services and this enhancement is among several service additions we have already had this year,” stated Katherine Bunting, Ph.D., FMH CEO.

This upgrade to the new 3D Mammography system will occur and be in place by December 16, 2015.  Unfortunately, there will be a slight interruption of Mammography services from November 22, 2015 until 12:00 noon on December 16, 2015.   Patients will be scheduled for Mammograms with the new 3D mammography starting at 12 noon on the December 16. The Diagnostic Imaging Department can be reached at 618-847-8249 for those needing assistance during this interruption of service.

“Fairfield Memorial Hospital apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause, but know we plan to assist every patient needing Mammograms scheduled to have their Mammogram complete before the end of the year. We appreciate everyone’s patience during this exciting transition, knowing that the disruption in service will lead to an enhancement that will benefit our patients tremendously in the future,” stated Don Fromm, R.T. (R), CRA, FMH Diagnostic Imaging Director.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the scheduling desk at ext. 618-847-8249 or Don Fromm, R.T. (R), CRA, Director of Diagnostic Imaging at 618-847-8271.
