Eden’s Harvest focus of Thursday’s Kiwanis meeting

The Carmi Kiwanis met on March 30. President Jeremy Jordan called the meeting to order. JC Tinsley introduced his guest Terri Armstrong, and Kim Gwaltney introduced her guest Russ Kaser. Doug Hayes introduced five Key Club members who were present. Dave Johnson won the 50/50 drawing.

Chris Myers introduced Kyle Fisher, executive pastor of Crossroads Bible Church in Norris City. Kyle spoke to the club about the church’s outreach program called Eden’s Harvest. With recent purchases of land, the church initiated a community enhancement effort to provide fresh vegetables to the community.

Through volunteers the church began planting fresh vegetables in 2015 to supplement their food pantry. In 2016 a hydroponics greenhouse was added to the operation that extends the growing season. A second greenhouse was built in 2017 along with a pole building. Today Eden’s Harvest seeks to feed the hungry through its two greenhouses, row gardens, and honey supply.

Last year 327 families were assisted through the church’s food pantry. Eden’s Harvest is located behind the middle school in Norris City. For more information about the food pantry or Eden’s Harvest contact the church office at 618.378.3959.
