Dawgs Win 1st BDC Title Since 2012

The Carmi-White County Boys Track team brought home 1st Place at the 2024 Black Diamond Conference meet at Hamilton County on Thursday with a team score of 156, defeating Fairfield by just 13 points.

In track, 13 points is incredibly narrow, and the Bulldogs used everything they had to come away at the top.

In the 100 Meter Race, Beck Huff finished 2nd and Nelson Rider finished 3rd.

Huff then finished in 1st Place in the 200 Meter Race with a new person record time of 22.7 seconds.

Jayde Albright came in 2nd in the 400 Meter Race.

Andrew Benham finished in 5th Place in the 800 Meter Race.

Benham then ran a new personal best in 1 Mile Race with a time of 4:50.6, just 2 seconds behind the 1st Place winner.

Lane Connaway finished in 1st Place in the 2 Mile and 3rd Place in the 1 Mile.

Kale Wiggins finished in 2nd Place in the 110 Meter Hurdles, and 3rd Place in the 300 Meter Hurdles, both at new personal record times.

The Relay Team of Wiggins, Huff, Rider, and Noah Pollard finished in 1st Place in the 4×1 and 4×2 Relays with times of 44.9 and 1:35.6.

The 4×4 Relay Team of Trey Dixon, Mitchel Edwards, Andrew Benham, and Jayde Albright finished in 3rd Place.

The 4×8 Relay Team of Connaway, Dixon, A. Benham, and Luke Bolerjack finished in 4th Place.

Connor Benham placed 3rd in Pole Vault.

Gavin Peyton placed 2nd in Shot Put and 4th in Discus.

Nelson Rider placed 2nd in Discus.

Mitchel Edwards placed 1st in High Jump and Triple Jump, and 2nd Place in Long Jump.

“I am so incredibly proud of our entire team,” said CWC track coach Clinton Wolff. “We had some kids step up and do some events that they had never done before, and they killed it. Every point mattered today.”

He was exactly right, every single point mattered for the Bulldogs.

Four different Bulldogs competed in 3+ events in Thursday’s meet. The Bulldogs were able to pick up 22 points from athletes picking up an extra event, which ended up being the difference.

This is just the 5th time the Bulldog track team has won a conference title, and just the 3rd time in the BDC. Those titles came in 1956, 1981, 2011, 2012, and now 2024.

Congratulations to Coach Wolff and the Bulldogs for what has been a historic season. They will run at the IHSA Sectional meet at Weber-Bluford on Thursday.
