
The Carmi-White County Wrestling team hosted two tournaments at Washington School over the holiday weekend, with over 20 schools from Southern Illinois in attendance.
The Bulldogs started off the weekend with a Junior Varsity tournament on Saturday.
Gage Anderson wrestled for the Bulldogs in the 106 weight class, starting off the day by pinning Tyler Norris from Johnston City in 2:50. Anderson fell in the 2nd round, moving to the 3rd Place quarterfinals where he would eventually fall to Murphysboro’s Mason Hartung, who went on to finish 3rd. Lawrenceville’s Dayton Ledbetter finished 2nd, Centralia’s Brylan Guthrie finished 1st.
In the 113 weight class, West Frankfort’s Aiden Milligan finished 3rd, Salem’s Kris Schicker finished 2nd, Marion’s Rigdon Meacham finished 1st.
Connor Benham wrestled for the Bulldogs in the 120 weight class, pinning Colin Clendenin from Salem in his first match in 1:50. Benham fell in the 2nd round, but made it to the 3rd Place semifinals before losing to Centralia’s Mason Smith-Marcum who finished in 3rd Place. Red Bud’s Landon Fausz finished 2nd, Marion’s Juelz Elliott finished 1st.
Kenny Clark picked up another win in the 126 weight class, pinning his opponent in 3:10. After losing in round 2, Clark came away with back-to-back victories, putting himself in the 3rd Place match, but he would be pinned by Mt. Vernon’s Brendan Bauer in 1:12. Marion’s Hunter Detrick finished in 2nd, Centralia’s Lucas Ashlock finished in 1st.
In the 132 weight class, it was a dominant performance from CWC freshman Nolan Garner. Garner won his first match in just 13 seconds, he then won his second match in just 42 seconds, he won his third match in just 27 seconds, before winning the championship match in just 44 seconds. Red Bud’s Weston Brockmeyer finished in 2nd, Carterville’s Addison Mann finished in 3rd.
In the 138 weight class, Olney’s Landyn Jones finished in 3rd, West Frankfort’s Jaden White finished in 2nd, Red Bud’s Brayden Setzer finished in 1st.
The Bulldogs had another first place finisher in the 144 weight class. After receiving a bye in the first round, Chambers pinned Centralia’s Cooper Green in Round 2 in 2:25, he then pinned Fairfield’s Luis Colmenares in the semifinals, before pinning Trico’s Tristan Tapp in 5:56 in the championship.
Cole Evans nearly brought home a 3rd Place finish in the 150 weight class, he was pinned by Oblong’s Cole Littlejohn. Breese Central’s Colsen Wagoner finished 2nd, Carbondale’s Anthony Miller finished in 1st.
In the 157 weight class, CWC’s Branson Burnett made it all the way to the championship match, before getting pinned by Herrin’s Garrett Ray in 1:33. Marion’s John Walters finished in 3rd Place.
In the 175 weight class, Carmi’s Hayden White and James Hutchcraft both picked up wins in the first round, however neither were able to place. Herrin’s Dominick Khoshaba finished in 3rd Place, Salem’s Wyatt Rau finished in 2nd Place, Johnston City’s Juan Salazar finished in 1st Place.
In the 215 weight class, Olney’s Gentry Michels finished 3rd, Marion’s Tristin Vail finished 2nd, and Johnston City’s Joeseph Hercules finished 1st.
In the 285 weight class, Marion’s Logan Black finished 3rd, Mt. Vernon’s Bryson Upton finished 2nd, Lawrenceville’s Stephen Killion finished 1st.
Everyone rested up on Sunday before returning on Monday for a varsity tournament.
In the 106 weight class, Carterville’s Isaac Wood finished 3rd, Lawrenceville’s Kyler Guercio finished 2nd, West Frankfort’s Hudson Anderton finished 1st.
In the 113 weight class, Fairfield’s Anthony Granfeldt finished 3rd, Herrin’s Brennan Jeralds finished 2nd, Carterville’s Ramiro Sebastian finished 1st.
CWC senior Travor Mason won his first match in the 120 weight class, pinning Robinson’s Eddison Armijos in 1:06. Mason however would drop his next two matches, falling short of placing. Vandalia’s Robby McCoy finished 3rd, Lawrenceville’s Drew Seitzinger finished 2nd, Salem’s Rylan Moore finished 1st.
In the 126 weight class, Herrin’s Gabe Eldridge finished 3rd, Salem’s Caleb Osborne finished 2nd, Goreville’s Matt Crim finished 1st.
In the 132 weight class, Centralia’s Cameron Haake finished 3rd, Freeburg’s Lukas Quartz finished 2nd, Vandalia’s Eli Mabry finished 1st.
In the 138 weight class, Lawrenceville’s Dylan Aten finished 3rd, Johnston City’s Jace Weaver finished 2nd, Harrisburg’s Rocko Neal finished 1st.
Kale Wiggins wrestled in the 144 weight class for Carmi, and he won his first two matches, pinning Freeburg’s Ean Kreher and Oblong’s Jude Wirey. Wiggins would then fall in the quarterfinals, and then once again in the 3rd Place semifinals, coming away empty handed. Salem’s Kade Orrell placed 3rd, Lawrenceville’s Hudson Meek finished 2nd, Vandalia’s Zayne Zinkgraf finished 1st.
In the 150 weight class, Harrisburg’s Brock Felty finished 3rd, West Frankfort’s Lucas Parker finished 2nd, Salem’s Keyton King finished 1st.
Cole Evans won his first two matches for the Bulldogs in the 157 weight class, but then lost his next two. Vandalia’s Corbin Meyers finished 3rd, Breese Central’s Matthew Walsh finished 2nd, Robinson’s Ben Mullins finished 1st.
Branson Burnett went 2-2 in the 165 weight class. Vandalia’s Parker Ray finished 3rd, Herrin’s Kolby Coffey finished 2nd, Robinson’s Kahne Hyre finished 1st.
In the 175 weight class, West Frankfort’s Clayton Dent finished 3rd, Trico’s Colin Hughey finished 2nd, Vandalia’s Noah Langston finished 1st.
In the 190 weight class, Harrisburg’s Brendan Hicks finished 3rd, Red Bud’s Danny Jackson finished 2nd, West Frankfort’s Conner Henson finished 1st.
Laeden Vargas won two matches for Carmi in the 215 weight class, but failed to place. Harrisburg’s Braxton Welge finished 3rd, Fairfield’s Keegan Bare finished 2nd, Freeburg’s Dane Olmstead finished 1st.
In the 285 weight class, Freeburg’s Jack Amann finished 3rd, Fairfield’s Bentley Rogers finished 2nd, Lawrenceville’s Dylan Camden finished 1st.
