Crossville Renews Bulldog for Trash Service, Pushes TNR Program, Makes Investment in Water Meter Read Technology

Residents in Crossville will continue to receive trash service from Bulldog Systems and the cost will be going up slightly.  Crossville trustees agreed to renew the agreement with the waste removal company Tuesday night for a 5 year term beginning in May.  The current cost will be going from about $15.34 per month to $18.50 per month for residents.

Also Tuesday evening, leaders continued to wrestle with establishing a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) program in the village.  Trustee Heather Guinn has spearheaded the research and ordinance alterations she says are needed to move forward.  Concern remained and Trustee Nancy Osborne instead motioned to have village attorney Jonathan Turpin review the proposed changes before moving forward.  Guinn, frustrated with the lack of progress, voted no as did Trustee Miranda Kuykendall.  The document will be reviewed by Turpin and taken up at a future meeting.

Other action taken Tuesday night included approval on a resolution for the 2026 Motor Fuel Tax maintenance plan, and an investment of $4,000 for $19,000 worth of upgrades to the water meter reading equipment through Ecopoint.  Trustees unanimously passed both.

Beyond that, leaders agreed to a resolution with PEFA which negotiates natural gas prices on behalf of more than 80 municipalities.  They also agreed to a Road Use Agreement with EDF Power Solutions regarding the rumored 30-acre Crooked Creek Solar Farm.

There was one building permit approved for Hailey Hurt for a lean to at property at 705 South Cross.

Village President Rick Kuykendall discussed multiple things in open session including an update on summer help through a partnership with WADI, a potential property purchase, vacating some public land near Davenport and Hon Streets.  He also previewed potential signage purchasing through a grant, and also discussed the delay on cameras over the summer through Dave Burrows.

Utility Superintendent Derek Spicer reported Crossville was up for an award.  The village has been nominated for Wastewater Treatment Plant of the Year.  Spicer will head to a conference at the end of the month to find out the results.

Police Chief Mark Wheeler reported on department activity over the last month including 17 calls for service, 13 traffic stops, and reminded residents that permits for golf carts will be due to renew by the end of April.  Without a permit, drivers can be cited.
