Crossville Leaders Planning Tire Clean Up Day, Community Halloween Party, Purchase Police Body Cam

While an unexpected storm sped through to the north Tuesday evening, Crossville leaders conducted business for just shy of 40 minutes prior to an executive session.  Nancy Osborne provided a brief update on the park committee’s activities saying a Halloween party is planned for the community on November 1st.

Mayor Rick Kuykendall asked the village board to approve a resolution for the Delta Regional Authority grant for a watermain replacement from the 4-way to Johnson Lane.  Kuykendall explains.

That is an engineer’s projection that the project may cost over the $500,000 grant.  This is an engineer looking it over, saying his thoughts are this project may cost an additional $36,270.  It may not depending on the contractors, it may come in under like the park project did.  It could very well come under, this is just his estimate.  But, you know if you look at it, if we did have to spend $36,270 in order to get a half a million dollar project, in my mind that’s nothing as far as that goes.

Village leaders unanimously agreed to pass the resolution.

The village also formally accepted a donation from the Phillips Township Fire Department.  They gave Crossville a 2012 Ford F-250 brush truck after getting a new one for their department.

Crossville leaders are purchasing a required body cam for police officer Mike Brown at a cost of $708.75.

Additionally, the mayor says after the success of the dumpster rental and allowing the community utilize it while working on a particular property, he’d like to offer another no cost way for individuals to continue cleaning up properties and the village at large specifically focusing on tires.

If you guys drive around town, you’ll see tires starting to accumulate everywhere.  It’s kind of a burden I believe to some people for whatever reason to get rid of these tires properly, whether it be the expense or whether it be dumping them in the country or burning them or however they get around it.  But I’d like to offer to the people of Crossville, we made a few calls and we can get rid of tires for $2.75 per tire.  And also, a guy volunteered that any tires that come on a rim, he’d take them off the rim at no cost.  We could keep the rims and sell them as scrap or he’d get rid of them.  But I want to offer this to the people in town at no cost.

Kuykendall says he expects it would end up costing the village three to four hundred dollars.  Additional details are being worked out and a date will be announced later.

Trustees also approved a building permit for a deck at 203 Potter for Jim Smith.  The deck is on top of a gas line.  Trustees approved the permit with the caveat that if workers had to access that gas line, it would be at the property owners expense.

The village recessed into executive session at 7:08pm so the mayor could update trustees on potential litigation.
