Crossville Leaders Make Fire Truck Purchase; Approve Long’s Resignation, More

With barely a quorum, Crossville leaders worked through their agenda in about an hour Tuesday night, but spent an additional hour and half after adjourning preparing for changes.  After purchasing the mid ‘90s Freightliner firetruck from New Harmony for $30,000, the group spent time parsing through around two dozen applications for a village secretary/treasurer.  That opening is due to Cheyenne Long’s resignation accepted earlier in the meeting.  Long’s last day will be September 19th.  Trustees Bruce Morlock and Miranda Kuykendall were absent.

Also approved at Tuesday night’s meeting, Crossville is moving forward with a tire clean up day from September 15th – September 29th for those living within the village limits.  The clean up is for car and pickup truck tires only at no expense to residents.  Those able are welcome to drop off tires at Rodney’s Lawn & Garden, 201 North Cross Street between 8am – 4:30pm Monday – Friday.  Those dropping tires off will be asked to show proof of residency to be eligible.  If a resident is unable to haul the tires to the drop off location, they can call 618-966-2237 to arrange for pick up.

Crossville accepted a bid on the old ’98 brush truck.  Three bids were received, and leaders will sell the vehicle to Matt McCandlish for $1,021.  Trustees also voted to purchase a cpu stand and dock for the police cruiser at a cost of $708.75.  Finally, leaders approved spending $70 per month on a cellular router to be able to get cameras at Tiger Park.  In late July, trustees agreed to the change to PC Doctors and expected to see savings of $107 per month.  This new cost will eat into that a bit as Mayor Kuykendall explains.

Here’s something, we’re kind of backtracking a little bit, but we’re still in the process of saving the village a little bit of money.  With the PC Doctor come in, his thoughts were getting wiring out to the park; that’s another big expense that he didn’t really realize we’d be jumping a signal from the grain elevator and can’t get a signal in.  But anyway, he’s got a cellular router for the wifi for the park and it’s going to be $70 a month and this will get us in full cameras at the park.  Originally when we went through all this, we were looking at savings of $107 a month.  We’re eating into that a little bit, but still we’re going to save a little bit and we’re going to have what we’re looking for.

Kuykendall says the village also purchased some game cameras and this upgrade will allow those to be utilized somewhere else in the village.

The next Crossville Village Board meeting is coming up on Tuesday, September 23rd at 6:30 in the village hall at 107 West Main.
