At 2:15 Friday afternoon, Carmi Police responded to a call from White County Ford that a vehicle had struck the business. Upon arrival, officers found that 63 year old Mary Ann Edwards of Carmi had crashed into the west side of the building.
Edwards told police she was shopping for a new vehicle when she mistook the gas for the brake, but a witness in the vehicle told officers that Edwards was attempting to drive over a curb, and over accelerated.
Edwards’ vehicle was towed from the scene by Cherry Street Automotive, and Edwards was arrested at the scene for DUI. She was transported to the White County Jail and was later released after posting a $100 bond.
