Carmi woman arrested for stealing roommate’s car, debit card

Carmi Police took a theft report on Wednesday afternoon that led to the arrest of a Carmi woman Wednesday evening.

At 1 pm, Sallie Hart reported that her car and debit card were missing, and that she suspected her roommate, 48 year old L’Pree Collins was responsible.  Hart said that the debit card had been used for over $1000 in unauthorized charges.

At 6:24 pm, the stolen vehicle was spotted returning to the 10th Street residence.  Collins was then taken into custody on charges of theft over $500, theft under $500, and possession of stolen property.  The missing debit card was located in the car, and Collins stated she had used it to purchase gas, food, and a hotel room.

Collins was transported to the White County Jail, where she is being held without bail pending a court hearing.

At 6:39 pm, 26 year old Jennifer Batteese of Carmi surrendered at the Carmi Police Department on a Wayne County warrant for failure to appear on a DUI charge.  Batteese was turned over to the custody of jail employees, and later was released after posting a $250 bond.
