Carmi Police Arrest Fire Starter Monday; Norris City Man Turns Himself in early Tuesday

A 40-year-old Carmi man is free after he was arrested just after noon on Monday.  Carmi officers responded to a Burrell Street address after dispatch advised Jarrod Talley of Oak Street was trespassing and actively starting a fire.  Once Carmi PD arrived, they found Talley indeed on the premises and a fire in the backyard.  Talley was taken into custody and charged with Criminal Damage to Property as well as Criminal Trespass to Real Property.  He was taken to the White County Jail for processing and released about an hour later with a notice to appear.

A Norris City man is behind bars after turning himself in early Tuesday morning at the Carmi Police Department.  Officials say 34-year-old Joseph Abell of rural Norris City arrived just after 6:30am to turn himself in on an active Failure to Appear warrant.  That warrant is related to an original charge of Driving on a Revoked License somewhere between 4 – 9 times back in July of 2023, making it a Class 4 Felony.  In September of that year, Abell was sentenced to 180 days behind bars, fined, and given 2 years of conditional discharge.  He remains behind bars awaiting to be seen by a judge.
