Carmi Police announce road closures for Saturday’s Lighted Christmas Parade

The White County Christmas Nighttime Lighted Parade will be held Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 6:00 pm.  The parade will form up and leave from the First Baptist Church parking lot at Main and Oak Street in Carmi.  The route will begin at Oak Street, leaving the church parking lot onto Oak Street just west of the church building.  On Oak Street, the parade will continue eastbound to Third Street.  At Third Street, the parade will turn north (left) and proceed north on Third to Stewart Street.  At Stewart, the parade will turn east (right) and proceed east on Stewart to Cherry Street.  At Cherry, the parade will turn east (left) and proceed on Cherry to Main Cross.   At Main Cross Street, the parade will turn south (right) and proceed across Main Street to Veteran’s Memorial Park where the parade will end.

All streets intersecting the parade route will be blocked beginning at 6:00 pm Saturday until the parade clears and it is safe to allow normal vehicular traffic to resume.

All intersections will be manned with Carmi Police and Auxiliary Officers and Carmi Fire and EMA personnel who will assist in ensuring safety during the event.  The public is encouraged to be aware of this temporary restriction of streets intersecting the parade route and to adjust travel plans accordingly.

Also this year, Ryan and Stephanie Taylor will be offering horse and carriage rides to the public.  The lineup for this will be on Main Cross Street at Robinson Street just behind Santa’s house.  The scheduled times will be from approximately 3:00 pm until just prior to the parade.  The rides will again resume after the parade is over.  Motorists should use caution and pay special attention in these areas for the carriage and for several pedestrians in these areas.

We hope the public comes out to help celebrate the kick off to the Christmas season and have a safe and enjoyable time.
