The Carmi Police Department responded to a report of a broken window at 11:45am Tuesday morning. Officers took a written statement from Daniel Demendonca that the front store windows of his building at 1 Smith Street were shattered overnight. Demendonca said he could find nothing stolen or missing from the property.
19 year old Nik Brown of Carmi was arrested by city police at his Olive Street residence at 12:41pm Tuesday afternoon on charges of domestic battery and criminal damage to property following a 911 call about a fight in progress. Witnesses told officers Brown was aggressive and had made physical contact with other family members in the home, and had destroyed a 65 inch flat screen TV.
Brown was taken into custody and transported to the White County Jail without incident and is being held without bail pending a court hearing.
