Carmi Man Arrested for Senior Abuse
Carmi Police arrested 39 year old Jason Philip Schneider of 103 Maple Street, Carmi around 9:15 Wednesday night after authorities were called to the residence in relation to a domestic battery complaint.
According to the incident report released by Carmi Chief of Police Jason Carter, authorities learned that Schneider had been confronted by the victim, a 68 year old woman, who was not named, for striking a child with a belt. The report noted after being confronted Schneider allegedly shoved the 68 year old, causing her to fall to the ground and then Schneider struck her with the belt.
A complaint was filed and Schneider was taken into custody and transported to the City County Jail for processing. During processing, a metal grinder with a small amount of a green leafy substance was located, resulting in a separate citation of possession of cannabis.
Schneider remained in custody Thursday morning facing charges of aggravated domestic battery to a senior citizen and domestic battery, along with the cannabis charge.
