Just before 9:30 pm Monday night, the White County Sheriff’s Department received a call about a child abuse incident earlier that evening at a residence on 9th Street.
After speaking with the victim, deputies arrested 55 year old Richard Travelstead on a charge of domestic battery. DCFS was contacted about the incident and will open an investigation. The victim was transported to another residence to spend the night.
Travelstead agreed to allow officers to search the residence, and there they found three smoking pipes, two of which tested positive for marijuana, and one that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Travelstead was then additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held at the White County Jail without bond pending a court hearing.
The Carmi Police Department assisted in the investigation.
