Carmi City Council approves tax levy

The Carmi City Council met Tuesday for their first meeting of December.

City CPA Keith Botsch presented the Council with the annual property tax levy for the fiscal year ending December 31st at $514,977.  The Council also unanimously approved abating the taxy levy for payment of general obligation bonds for the electric and water systems.

The Council approved renewal of risk management insurance through Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services, Inc. for 2018.  Rates will increase 2.6%, but the costs will be offset through the renewal of the safety grant.

In his report, Mayor Jeff Pollard thanked City employees for getting the Christmas lights up before the lighted Christmas parade, and thanked the Police Department and Chief Jason Carter for their work during the parade and tree lighting ceremony.

Pollard also reminded residents about the White County CEO program’s “Fun, Frost, and Family” event coming December 18th, and announced an electronic recycling event will be held January 6th.

The Council entered executive session at 5:40, and hired Ryan Stocke for the open position with the Street and Alley Department.

The Carmi City Council will meet again on December 19th at 5:30 pm.
