April 4th candidate profile – Carmi Mayor race – Jeff Pollard

In an effort to help the public make informed decisions in the upcoming Consolidated Election April 4th, we at WROY/WRUL News asked candidates in the contested races for the City of Carmi to fill out a short questionnaire.

Jeff Pollard

Mayor of Carmi

  1. Tell us a little about yourself.

Hello, I am Jeff Pollard your Mayor for the City of Carmi. I have spent the last eight years in public service. My first four years I served as Alderman for Ward 2 and during that time I was the Chairman over the Parks Department and Co-Chairman over the Finance Committee. For the past 4 years it has been an honor to serve as your Mayor of Carmi and I am again asking for your support and vote on April 4th, 2017. I am the son of Karen Evers, the late Gerald Pollard and John Evers of Carmi. I am married to Rickie, the daughter of Kay Holloman and the late Bill Holloman of Carmi. I have two children, Shelby and wife Bobbi; live in Chicago and a daughter Brooke who lives in Carmi. Rickie and I are both members of the First Christian Church here in Carmi.

  1. Why do you want to serve?

Living in Carmi all of my life, along with coming from a family that has always been involved in business and the community, inspires me to serve my community. Carmi has always been a family orientated community willing to help anyone in their time of need and for that I am proud to be a part of our community. I want to continue to be a part of helping our community grow and prosper.

  1. What are the biggest issues you see facing your desired position? How do you plan to address these issues?

Our economy and infrastructure have always been a major issue. During the past 4 years we have cut back on overtime and restructured some of our departments allowing our employees to better focus on some of our infrastructure needs. Each day we continue to work with our local businesses along with seeking new business to locate in our community.

  1. What sets you apart from the other candidates? Why should voters choose you on April 4th?

I feel for the past four years I have had the opportunity to work with an administration focused on the best needs of our community. We are a group that is very proactive on helping businesses, upgrades to infrastructure, safety of our employees and residents along with following a tight and close budget. If re-elected on April 4th, 2017 we will continue on the same path to continue making Carmi a place where everyone can be proud to call home.
