Pre-Trial Conference Continued for Hays; Potential Jury Trial Scheduled to Get Underway in October

A pre-trial conference held Thursday afternoon in White County court didn’t result in a plea deal for Darren Hays.  It looked like a possibility after the last court hearing three weeks ago.  On June 11th, court documents show parties recessed for a “402 conference” (private, pre-trial meetings meant to discuss a potential plea bargain and act as a settlement conference to help resolve a criminal case before it goes to trial).  On July 2nd, a zoom conference was held featuring prosecutor Dyhrkopp, defense attorney Cross, and Hays and it’s reported the matter was continued for a further pre-trial conference on August 27th and a potential jury trial to get underway on October 20th.  Hays will remain behind bars with the court’s previous finding denying pre-trial release remaining intact.
