Very Short Meeting for CWC School Board

The Carmi-White County School Board met for its regular monthly meeting Monday night.  Scott Mareing was there and has this report…

In the nine minute regular session, the Consent Agenda was approved.  It included board members are required to fill out an estimated expense approval form for expense requests for travel, meals, and/or lodging.  Hotel expenses will be paid by the district, but board members will not be reimbursed for their mileage.  Also $175 in donations were accepted for Brownsville School.

In the Superintendent’s Report, Jarrod Newell noted that this Friday is Principal Appreciation Day.  He thanked district administrators for their dedication to their jobs and the work they do for the district.  He also said that October 20th through the 24th is National School Bus Safety Week.  Newell thanked the drivers and district transportation staff for their service to the students and community.  Illinois School Report Cards will be released at the end of October.  And October 14th to 18th was National School Lunch Week.  Laura Goemaat was awarded the 2025 ISBE School Nutrition Champion at an event held at Jefferson School.  Newell thanked Goemaat for making a positive difference and recognized her on a job well done.

There was no Unfinished Business.

In New Business, the board members approved applying for the Fiscal Year 2026 School Maintenance Project Grant.  It’s a dollar-for-dollar state matching grant program providing awards up to $50,000 for maintenance or upkeep of buildings or structures for educational purposes.  There’s no limit to the cost, but grant awards can’t exceed $50,000 per grant award and applicants must provide a match from local funds equal to the grant amount requested.  Building and Maintenance Director Goemaat and Superintendent Newell will meet with the architect to review possible projects.

The board then went into Closed Session at 6:09 PM to discuss personnel and a review of closed session minutes.
