Year 21 of Shop with a Cop Deemed a Success by Officer Lucas

Officer Jonathan Lucas on behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 249 says the Kids Christmas through a partnership with Huck’s Karing for Kids program was a tremendous success in spite of it being what he calls, “the worst year ever.”  Although, cops weren’t able to shop with the children, which Lucas says is always fun, the Shop with a Cop program was able to deliver clothes and gifts to the doorsteps of 70 kids on Christmas Eve this year.  In addition to gifts, children also received Huck’s goody bags stuffed with free food coupons, toys, and snacks.

Lucas says, “Donations from the community which included monetary, clothes, and toys far exceeded what we anticipated coming in during this pandemic.  The excitement on the children’s faces when they realized the bags full of gifts being dropped off were for them was absolutely priceless.  I am truly amazed at the giving spirit of this community whether it be individuals, businesses, organizations, or churches.  Again, thank you all, our community, for being so caring and charitable.  May God bless you all this coming year.”

This was the 21st year for the Shop with a Cop program in White County.

Thank you to all the officer that helped this year in giving my boys a wonderful Christmas. They were absolutely over joyed when the Officer showed up on our porch Christmas Eve with all the gifts and goodies. They will never forget the wonderful and awesome things our officers have done for them and the other children of our community and neither will I. Thank you to all the wonderful people that were involved in making this year end with a little more hope and joy for my boys and for all the other families involved.

Officer lucas is one of a kind!! Before Christmas my family had a blowout just off grayville ext. My children were scared and it was extremely cold. He saw us and stopped to help immediately. He offer what help he could while we waited for my father to drive 40 mins to us with what we needed to fix the tire. He left briefly and said he would come back through and checked on us if were still there. He came back before our help had arrived with hot chocolate for all of us. I was floored! My kids were so tickled! My four year old said aww mom hes so sweet we should take him home and snuggle him!! My dad came we quickly fixed the tire and before leaving he handed us 80 dollars and said go buy your boys something for christmas. We tried to graciously decline but he insisted. My boys learned that day that we cant paint everyone, one color and good cops are still out there…in todays world its easy for children to watch tv or the news and see them as scary! My boys think officer lucas is the real deal! I dont have social media or i would have reached out to thank him personally! Thank you for your service and what you do for your community and others!!!
