Winter Ain’t Done; Not Yet

Winter Ain’t Done…Not Yet

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for nearly all of

southeastern Missouri, all of southern Illinois, and adjacent

parts of southwestern Indiana and western Kentucky, until this

evening. Light freezing rain is expected to produce some slick

driving conditions today. In addition, some sleet is possible

generally north of I-64.

An advisory message concerning the winter weather was released by the Carmi Police department, reminding area motorists to be aware of the possible ice accumulations, which will create slick travel conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. Local drivers are urged to keep that in mind on their morning commute to work, school or other appointments. And most importantly remember to slow down, leave plenty of room between vehicles, not only on the roadways, but especially at intersections and stop signs.

Local residents are also reminded there could be some slick sidewalks as well. Use caution while walking on ice…..and if you don’t have to be outside or on the roads, don’t.

.And to prove winter is not over, there is another storm system moving into the area Saturday night and into Sunday.

That  winter storm system may produce accumulating snows and impact

travel Saturday night and Sunday. Mixed wintry precipitation is

possible as well, before the changeover to all snow.

Wind chill readings Sunday night into Monday morning will drop into

the zero to 5 below zero range over most of the region. Similar wind

chills will be possible over portions of southern Illinois and

southwestern Indiana Monday night into Tuesday morning.
