White County Voting Precincts Will Be at the Floral Hall Again

With a very short agenda, the White County board members had a brief-ish meeting on Tuesday.
An item that has been tabled a few times finally had a resolution this time around. The voting precinct for White County will remain at Floral Hall at the Fairgrounds. Board member David South has continued to table the item until the Fairground board can transfer the Floral Hall back to its original layout. County Clerk Kayci Heil asked the board to consider moving the voting location after this election year, though.
The only item for New Business is a possible donation to Critter Fixers. The board took no action, so no donation was made.
Board members went through the consent agenda, with only one item up for discussion, and eventually approved it. Member South asked about the VET Environmental sample testing. VET Environmental specializes in testing water, soil, and air, and the board has been a part of this for years. The fourth-quarter pay estimate totaled $13,484.80; Carmi’s portion is 33% of the bill, with the other municipalities in White County splitting the remainder based on their percentage. State’s Attorney Chris Neal stated that he would contact the company to see how much longer White County will be part of the testing.
Reports from county officers went quickly, with only a handful in attendance.
County Clerk Kayci Heil expressed that she plans to call local post offices to clarify postmark practices for ballots. USPS now postmarks mail when it reaches the sorting facility, not on the day it is dropped off at the local post office. Heil wants to keep the ballots in-house to avoid St. Louis routing.
Treasurer Mike Baxley updated the board that the audit has started and will be completed in a couple of months, and the last day to pay your property tax is January 29th.
White County Sheriff Jordan Weiss thanked the EMA and Ambulance Directors for their hardwork and determination to help serve everyone they can within the community. Then shared that the total sheriff funds total to $222,574.29.
Ambulance Director Adam Allen received their second ambulance truck and is looking into installing steps for the vehicles. Lastly, EMA Director Alan Wurst invited all to a storm information class that he will host on February 21st at 5:00 PM at the Lion’s Club; anyone is welcome.
The next White County Board meeting, which is now the third Tuesday of every month, will be on February 17th at 7 PM.
