White County Sheriff’s Department announces arrest made in Matz burglary

The White County Sheriff’s Department has announced that they have made an arrest in the burglary of the Donna Matz home that occurred Saturday while she was at the funeral of her late husband, Hank.

 

bassemier michael 8-23-1649 year old Michael Bassemier of Carmi is currently housed in the White County Jail on a charge of possession of stolen property.  His bond has been set at $2000.  Two other individuals are suspects in the burglary and remain at large.

According to a press release this morning from Sheriff Doug Maier, many jewelry items from the Matz home have been recovered from individuals in Carmi and from a pawn shop in Harrisburg.  Maier stated that many of the items had been severely damaged and were being sold for the gold content only.

White County States Attorney Denton Aud is reviewing the case and additional charges are expected to be filed.

Sheriff Maier stated that his department is actively searching for the two at large suspects, and commended deputies Randy Graves and Scott Cantrell for their diligent work leading to Bassemier’s arrest and the recovery of many of the stolen items.
