White County continues to lift major oil reserves from the ground and outperform other counties throughout the state in production. A new report out today from the Illinois Petroleum Resources Board shows White County actually increased its production to the largest total since 2020, producing more than a quarter of a million barrels more than in 2023. With more than 2.2 million barrels in 2024, White County pumped out more oil than the number 2, 3, 4, and 5 producing counties (Marion, Crawford, Wabash, Fayette) combined and accounted for better than 30% of the state’s overall production.
Those 260,985 barrels more in 2024 than 2023 helped buoy several counties that saw drops year to year and allowed the state to have a higher production of 27,914 barrels in 2024 versus 2023. Ten counties outperformed their 2023 numbers last year while 35 counties produced less from just 2 barrels down to more than 46,000 fewer. Among the biggest drops in our region were Lawrence (-46,000), Wabash (-39,000), Wayne (-17,000), and Hamilton (-13,000). Biggest risers besides White included Sangamon (25,600), Jefferson (22,900), and Edwards (7,700).
