What’s the Hold Up? ISP Now Three Months into Investigation of Video Allegedly Showing Misconduct by Corrections Officer

It’s been 3 months since a release from the White County Sheriff’s Department indicated suspected misconduct by a corrections officer at the jail.  At that time, Sheriff Jordan Weiss said he had called in assistance from the Illinois State Police.  A check with ISP Wednesday was met with yet again, the same response we’ve received repeatedly since the alleged incident.  “This is an active investigation and there is no additional information available at this time.”  So, what’s taking so long?  That’s not immediately clear and those with the ISP in charge of the investigation aren’t giving any clues.

On Tuesday, November 11th, Weiss said following a routine review of security cameras, video showed a corrections officer enter the cell of a female inmate and what was suspected to be inappropriate conduct.  At the time, the three-year full-time employee of the county was placed on immediate leave without pay and remains off the job.

In early December, a special prosecutor was assigned to the case in Douglas Dyhrkopp, the Gallatin County States Attorney, according to Weiss. Also in December, it was revealed that murder suspect Megan Valentine had been moved to the Wayne County Jail after an incident at the White County Jail and that she had submitted to a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) evaluation.

Valentine is due back in court in the afternoon of March 25th.  No results from the SANE evaluation have been revealed to this point.
