Wayne County accident result of alcohol and speeding

District 19 Illinois State Troopers investigated a single vehicle traffic accident that occurred in Wayne County Saturday afternoon that sent two men to the hospital by Air Evac.

According to the crash report issued, 25 year old James L. Franklin of Geff was driving at a high rate of speed east on Wayne County highway 7 at the intersection of County Road 1325 E when he lost control of the vehicle and left the road on the right.

Franklin’s car struck a driveway culvert and went airborne, landing nose first in a yard.  Franklin and a passenger, 26 year old Randall S. Trout, also of Geff, were transported by helicopter to a hospital for their injuries.  Troopers say that neither man was wearing a seatbelt and that alcohol was involved.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Geff Fire Department, Fairfield City Fire and Rescue, Air Evac, Wayne County Ambulance Service, Illinois State Conservation Police, and Rick’s Towing of Fairfield.

Franklin is facing charges of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to wear a seatbelt, driving while license revoked, illegal transportation of alcohol, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
