Wabash County Fatality
A two vehicle crash involving a garbage truck and a pick up truck in Wabash County Tuesday sent one person to the hospital and left one person dead.
According to the Illinois State Police traffic alert, Brenda S. Morehead, 66 of Mt. Carmel was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash after her pickup was hit by a Peterbilt garbage truck.
The garbage truck was driven by 32 year old Derek Wells of Bridgeport.
The report indicated Wells failed to stop at the intersection of Wabash County Road 850 East and Illinois Highway 15, crashing into the pickup driven by Morehead.
Air Evac transported Wells to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Illinois State police were assisted by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Wabash County Sheriff’s Department, Wabash County Coroner, Wabash General Hospital Ambulance Service, Air Evac, Mt. Carmel Fire Department, Rick’s Towing of Grayville and Rick’s Towing of Fairfield.
Wells was cited for disobeying a stop sign and driving while ill or fatigued.
