On May 26, 2017, The White County VFW Post 3851 at Carmi conducted their yearly installation of newly elected officers for the 2017-2018 year. Keith Brooks was elected as the new Commander, replacing Mike Lydick. Harold Maurer was elected Quartermaster, replacing Pat Buttry. Mike Lydick was elected as Chaplain, replacing Keith Brooks.

After the ceremony, the VFW hosted Braxton Williams, one of Carmi-White County’s class of 2017. Braxton is the son of Jonathon and Brandy Williams. Braxton was one of 99 students in the United States to be chosen to play football in Australia, and one out of two in Illinois. The VFW presented a check to Braxton to help with his future expenses.
