A typically long board meeting took place in Enfield Tuesday for just over two hours, with the main topics being the burglaries in the area and a clothing stipend for utility department employees. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
The meeting kicked off with Mayor Maurie Black noting that the concession stand at the park was burglarized recently and some sports equipment was stolen. There have also been break-ins in other areas and the board is considering installing cameras in an attempt to catch people in the act.
Almost an hour into the meeting, the board went into executive session to discuss a clothes stipend for utility department employees. After 50 minutes, it was decided that the three utility employees will each get a $350 per year stipend to purchase clothing, including boots, and they must spend all the money in that year and will not be allowed to carry the money over into the next year.
Also in that executive session, it was decided that the village office will be open every Monday through Friday from 7 AM to Noon and from 1 to 4 PM for residents to pay their utility bills. If the secretary is absent, then someone will take their place to ensure that someone is always in the building. Also, village employees must give 24 hour notice before taking any time off and they are discouraged from taking time off five days prior to the 20th of each month.
In the police report, Brandon Smythe said that the squad car now has a radio and radar. They will investigate the break-ins in the area.
In old business, the street lighting is finishing up as they’re waiting on some jackhammer work near the post office, they are still working on the estimate for Community Center repairs, still working on the park grant, and the parcel of land on Miller Street is still for sale and open for bids.
In new business, the board received a “thank you” card from the Burnt Prairie/Enfield Masonic Lodge, thanking them for their donations to the Angel Christmas Tree program, they will be looking for a new bed on the state truck as the old one has collapsed, and they will be looking for a burnisher for the gym floor at the Community Center. A burnisher is a smooth hard tool used to polish, smooth, or shape surfaces by applying friction and pressure.
The board adjourned at 9:07 PM.
