Township Accepts Bids for Salt Storage Building

After several months of delays due to the salt storage building, the Carmi Township board formally reopened the bidding process to address procedural concerns and ensure proper bid acceptance.
During the meeting, with all members present except Tim Scates, the board reviewed five bids. These covered separate aspects: building supply, concrete, and assembly. Each bidder was evaluated in accordance with Township guidelines.
White County Welding LLC will supply the building kit, including blueprints and foundation guides, but no end walls, for $28,000.
The assembly will cost $12,000, handled by Horn’s Helping Hands.
Sharp Stone and Concrete will install the concrete for $36,320.
The Township budgeted $50,000 for the building, but overspent by $26,320. As the meeting continued, the board turned to other agenda items.
With storage bids as the only agenda item, the board moved on to other matters. They next addressed General Assistance, which had 18 sign-ins and disbursed $3,636.
During the Treasurer’s report, it was shared that the Township received $200,558.91 in property tax revenue. Supervisor Pam Deig also informed the board that Integrity had completed the Township building’s roof.
The next Township meeting will be on February 10 at 6 PM.
