The Carmi Township met Tuesday night without Supervisor Pam Deig and Trustees Tim Scates and Casey Coale, but the show must go on.
Deputy Clerk Amy Wilson started the meeting and quickly went through the agenda items with Township Attorney Greg Stewart.
Highway Commissioner Chris McEwing stated he is ready to start collecting bids for a 2009 International Dump Truck and for road work for the Pontca Lake subdivision area. The subdivision will include 1374, 1368, 1362, and 865 East, with McEwing stating it would be one mile or a little more of work. Bids for both the roads and the dump truck are due by the next board meeting on August 11. The board agreed to start accepting the bids.
McEwing also said that from August 3—maybe 5—he plans to have 14 miles of oil and chip on Township roads. At the time of the meeting, he did not have specific roads listed.
In unfinished business, two agenda items were tabled. Employee healthcare, a hot topic in previous meetings, was tabled again. Wilson also shared a possible plan on the matter.
“Pam, her recommendation was to pay everything but the gap plan. Which is, she recommends pay 100% of the prime care plus $1,500 deductible. That’s $560 per person. And then if you want the gap plan that we would pay for that ourselves, the employee yes, and it’d be taken out of their paycheck.”
The only other issue was the City/County Dog Pound. There were no updates, so it was again tabled. Wilson explained that Deig was still trying to contact Mayor Stendeback and a person on the County Board for more information.
The Township adjourned and will meet again on August 11 at 6 pm.
