Tough Day for Softball and Baseball

 

It was a tough day for both the Carmi White County Softball team and baseball team, as both lost to Fairfield Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Bulldogs lost to Fairfield 9 to 5 in nine innings. That game was broadcast on our sister station, WRUL 97.3 FM. Jason Craig and Chris Lucas had the action covered.

The Bulldog baseball team lost to the Mules10 to 7 in seven innings.

Carmi scored three in the third, two in fifth and two more in the seventh, but just not enough to overcome Fairfield’s three runs in the second, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and four more in the final inning.

Blazier and Rankin scored twice for the Dawgs as did Brown. Berkshivlli added another run for the locals.

Mendenhall, Fulkerson, Mahon, Ledford and Atteberry shared pitching duties in the loss.

The baseball team will be on the road this afternoon to Flora, but will be meeting Fairfield again Thursday in a game to be broadcast on WRUL 97.3 FM. Jason and Chris will have the mic duties and will be on air shortly after 4:15 for the pregame show prior to the 4:30 start time.

 

In other local sports; The Junior High Track meet that had been scheduled for today in Benton, has been moved to tomorrow, Thursday, April 11.

The Carmi American Legion Baseball team will open their season Wednesday, May 29 against McLeansboro, with their second game of the year to follow on Sunday, June 2. The team will play McLeansboro for that first game and Fairfield on June  2.
