Today is Thanksgiving
Today, Thursday, Nov. 22 is Thanksgiving, a national holiday, but more importantly a day of giving thanks.
It’s a day of family gatherings and a day of eating too much, as the Thanksgiving meal is generally the largest meal prepared at homes across the country during the year. While Christmas and Easter dinners are often large, generally it’s the Thanksgiving meal that fills tables. This year, the price of a Thanksgiving meal was down from years past, averaging about $48.90, down 22 cents from last year.
While the day includes great food, it also presents a chance to vegetate in front of the television, beginning this morning with the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade and football later in the day.
Locally, The First Christian Church is offering a thanksgiving meal for those who otherwise did not have plans for a special holiday meal. Last year, the church, with help from businesses, civic organizations and a large number of local citizens prepared over 300 meals.
