Six health and beauty classes taking shape across RLC’s district

Take part in several beauty and mental health workshops this fall at Rend Lake College. Everything from tricks for makeup and hair to self-motivation will be covered in six classes on all three campuses.

Join Instructor Sarah Sronce for three workshops this fall in Pinckneyville called the Beauty Series. In her first course, Makeup Application for Fall, participants will use Mirabella makeup to learn the newest tricks and tips in the makeup industry, as well as about the fall makeup line. The workshop costs $10 and will meet from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at Shear Attitude Salon in Pinckneyville.

Sronce will then help participants fill in their eyebrows correctly with the Eyebrows Workshop. The class costs $10 and will meet from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 at Shear Attitude Salon in Pinckneyville.

In her final workshop, Hair Braiding Class, Sronce will focus on three braiding styles: French braid, fishtail, and waterfall. Participants can use mannequins available at Shear Attitude Salon or they can bring a child to practice on. The class costs $10 and meets from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 in Pinckneyville.

On the Ina campus, join University of Illinois Extension Instructor Pamela Schallhorn and work on Believing in Yourself. This two-part workshop will teach participants how to take the next step in their life, build confidence and self-esteem, use creative problem-solving, and re-train their brain for success.

In the first session, participants will learn to recognize and silence negative self-talk. During the second session, they will learn to re-train their brain for success by turning negative thoughts into positive affirmations with creative right-brain techniques. The class costs $10 and meets from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 5 and 12 in the Academic Building, Room 207.

For those interested in the art of contouring, join RLC’s Theatre Professor Tracey Webb during the Corrective Contour Makeupworkshop. Learn everything from basic corrective makeup techniques to spicing it up with glam holiday makeup all while finding the best tools to highlight, shade, and blend.

A supply list will be mailed to each participant at the time of registration, and all supplies and makeup should be brought to the workshop. Attendees must be over the age of 14. The class costs $15 and meets from 6 – 9 p.m., Monday, Nov. 21 in the Learning Resource Center, Room 154, on the Ina campus.

The final workshop will be held in Mt. Vernon. Hold That Thought! and Instructor Susan Sloop of the University of Illinois Extension will focus on forgetfulness for people in all stages of life. The workshop will look into the memory process and discuss what contributes to brain health and strategies for helping with everyday forgetfulness. The class costs $10 and meets from noon – 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 at the RLC MarketPlace, Room 354A.
