Short CWC Unit 5 July Meeting

The Carmi-White County School Board met Monday night for its regular monthly meeting and breezed through a light agenda in under 15 minutes.  Scott Mareing was there for WROY/WRUL News and has details.
The board authorized Superintendent Jarrod Newell to develop a tentative budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year and authorized the district to expend funds to cover costs until the budget is approved.  The tentative budget will be reviewed at the August board meeting, with the budget hearing and final approval at the September meeting.
The Elementary, Junior High and Senior High School Handbooks for the 2025-2026 school year were approved.  Most changes in the handbooks concern the cleaning up of language.
The Consent Agenda was approved.  It contained changes in five board policies, review and monitoring of 15 board policies, and accepted $100 in donations to the Brownsville School.
In the Superintendent’s Report, Jarrod Newell said online registration for students will be from July 29th to the 31st and assistance is available for online registration by appointment at each building.  August 11th and 12th is teacher institute and workdays for staff.  The first day for students will be Wednesday, August 13th, with one hour early dismissal for students for the first week of school.
The summer custodial staff has been preparing the buildings for the start of the school year by being cleaned, disinfected, repaired, and updated.  Also, summer maintenance projects that have been approved are in progress.
And Laura Goemaat was named the ISBE School Nutrition Champion. She ensures that students are provided with good healthy meal options, and has served the Greater Wabash Food Council as the Farm to School Coordinator.  She’s going to be presented an award during National School Lunch Week October 13th to the 17th by the ISBE to recognize her for the achievement.
