RLC’s Ina campus offering 18 Summer Kids Camps

Eighteen Summer Kids Camps, ranging from outdoor activities to technology to musical lessons, have been scheduled for June and July at Rend Lake College. RLC’s Community and Corporate Education Division is hosting many returning camps, such as Survivor Camp and Blastoff!, while bringing in some new options, including Dolly & Me Adventure Camp! and iMake. All of the following summer camps will be held on the Ina campus.

Blastoff!: for grades 4-8 at $75 per camper

1 – 4 p.m. Monday, June 13 – Thursday, June 16 in the Historic Schoolhouse

Camp Instructor Greg Hollmann will turn an ordinary summer into another adventure during this ultimate science camp. Blastoff! has new challenges in store for 2016, so don’t worry if you have attended in the past. Participation in this camp will help students in developing a strong sense of self and connection to their environment. Participants will build and launch their own rocket.

 

Chefs of Tomorrow: for grades 4-6 at $30 per camper, per session

9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Friday, June 10 for lunch and Friday, June 17 for desserts in the Student Center, Culinary Lab

Camp Instructors Robert Wilson and Jeff Fairbanks will teach campers the basics to begin cooking safely, plus stress the importance of food sanitation, clean hands, spotless utensils, and clear work spaces. The instructors will teach campers how to make lunch for themselves with a dessert included on June 10. The roles will reverse on June 17 when campers will learn to make their own desserts with a lunch included. Campers will take home samples of their creations.

Cycle of Seasons: for prekindergarteners and kindergarteners at $30 per camper

10 – 11 a.m. Monday, June 6 – Thursday, June 9 in the Learning Resource Center, Room 119

Camp Instructor April Tennyson will celebrate each camper’s growing independence and love of the outdoors with musical activities involving the four Cycles of Seasons. The camp is designed to build attention and self-expression with singing, chanting, moving, listening, musical games, musical instruments, storytelling, and creative movement.

Dolly & Me Adventure Camp!: for kindergarteners-third graders at $60 per camper

9 a.m. – Noon, Monday, June 13 – Thursday, June 16 in the Advanced Technology Center, Room 156

Bring your favorite doll or stuffed animal to join Camp Instructor Mandy Bernard for a morning of crafts and activities each day, based on the American Girl books.

Garbage Pail Science: at $60 per camper

For grades 4-6 from 1 – 4 p.m. Monday, June 6 – Thursday, June 9

For grades 1-3 from 1 – 4 p.m. Monday, June 13 – Thursday, June 16

All located in the Science Building, Room 117

Join Camp Instructor Reba Boyer as you experience the fun of science firsthand through many different experiments. A folder of handouts for each experiment will be handed out so you can repeat the activities at home.

iMake: for ages 12-16 at $100 per camper

9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday from June 20 – June 30 in the Vocational Building

Camp Instructor Matt Jackson will introduce you to 3D printing, Computer Aided Design, Computer Numeric Control (CNC), and laser cutting in this creative camp where tools for creating are emerging from industry to home use.

Let’s Get Fit!: for grades 2-6 at $40 per camper

9 a.m. – Noon Monday, June 6 – Thursday, June 9 in the RLC Rec Center

Camp Instructor Tyler O’Daniel will show you that being active is fun. Campers will be introduced to an active lifestyle by participating in several different types of physical activities and learn about nutrition while having fun. Campers should wear play clothes and tennis shoes, and wear sunscreen. Don’t forget to bring swimwear Tuesday and Thursday.

Martial Arts: for grades 1-8 at $60 per camper

1 – 4 p.m. Monday, June 6 – Thursday, June 9 in the RLC Rec Center

Discover martial arts training with Camp Instructor Gary Douglas and improve on your health and coordination while learning to work with others. Campers will practice basic calisthenics and stretches, and will work on beginning kicks that can be combined into self-defense techniques. Campers should wear loose fitting clothing and tennis shoes.

Music Makers Intro to Keyboard!: for grades 1-4 at $45 per camper, per session

1 – 2 p.m. Monday, June 6 – Thursday, June 9 and Monday, June 13 – Thursday, June 16
(May attend one or both sessions) in the Learning Resource Center, Room 211

Camp Instructor April Tennyson will give you small, group lessons at the keyboard to capitalize on your delight with making music with others and to learn in a fun, relaxed environment. Each camper will learn to play by ear and read music.

My Buddy & Me Cake Creations!: for kindergarteners-third graders at $15 per camper

9 – 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 14 in the Student Center, Private Dining Area

Camp Instructor Beth Mandrell invites parents and caregivers to join their favorite little friends to create cupcakes and participate in activities with a “creative food” theme. Children will have fun using icing, cookies, candies, and their imagination to add features to their cakes. The camp will conclude with a parade on campus to pass out some of their creations. Tools and supplies will be provided, but chefs should bring an old apron or shirt to camp.

Nature’s Music: for children birth to 3 ½ years at $30 per camper, per session

11 a.m. – Noon, Monday, June 6 – Thursday, June 9

2:15 – 3 p.m. Monday, June 13 – Thursday, June 16

(May attend one or both weeks) in the Learning Resource Center, Room 119

Sing, chant, move, dance, listen, and play simple instruments with Instructor April Tennyson. Each lesson features movement activities for coordination, body awareness and control, exploration of space, and instruments such as rhythm, sticks, jingles, rattles, drums, and more.

Stroke and Turn Camp: for grades 1-8 at $30 per camper

1 – 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 21 – Wednesday, June 22 or Tuesday, July 19 – Wednesday, July 20 in the Aquatics Center

Camp Instructor Laura Johnston will help you improve the technique and efficiency of competitive swimming starts and turns. Campers will learn to work the walls to get the best competitive swim edge with emphasis on both grab starts and track starts. This camp is for those with swim team experience and each stroke turn will be practiced and refined both days of camp.

Survivor Camp: for grades 4-6 at $60 per camper

9 a.m. – Noon, Monday, June 13 – Thursday, June 16 in the Historic Schoolhouse

Join the Rend Lake Corps of Engineers Park Rangers and Camp Instructor Dawn Kovarik to learn about the basics of how to prepare yourself for survival in the wild, including a cookout over a fire on the final day of camp.

Through the Looking Glass: for grades 4-6 at $60 per camper

9 a.m. – Noon, Monday, June 13 – Thursday, June 16 in the Applied Science Building, Rooms 102-103

Camp Instructor Joy Fitts invites you to attend a tea party with Alice and her friends. Spending the morning creating crafts of Alice’s world of top hats, tutus, and much more.

We’re Going on a Bug Hunt!: for kindergarteners-third graders at $60 per camper

9 a.m. – Noon, Monday, June 6 – Thursday, June 9 in the Science Building, Room 109

Collect all sorts of insects with Camp Instructor Mandy Bernard as you dive into their natural habitat.

Grade level applies to either past or upcoming grade. Payments may be made by check, money order, credit or debit cards, or cash, and must be received at the time of registration. Parents and guardians are responsible for all transportation arrangements to and from camp.
