Post 224 Backs Against the Wall with Loss Tuesday Night, Will Play Wednesday Night Once, Maybe Twice

Things started out well last night for Carmi American Legion Post 224 scoring 3 runs in the top of the 1st and allowing Harrisburg only 1 run in the bottom half.  Harrisburg couldn’t be contained however and a big 2nd inning proved the difference as Harrisburg ended up running away from Carmi at SIU last night by a 14-5 score.  Jason Mendenhall took the loss for Post 224 as he allowed 6 runs on 4 hits and was unable to strike anyone out while walking 3.  Wade Sauls pitched 2 innings of relief followed by Jacob Lamont who gave up an additional 4 Harrisburg runs in the 5th.  Brandon Skaggs pitched Post 224 through the final 2 innings.  Only 4 of Harrisburg’s 14 were earned runs as Carmi committed 5 errors.  Harrisburg outhit Post 224 just 12-7.  Cal York went 2 for 3 in a losing effort and batted in 2 of Carmi’s runs.  Cole Blazier also had 2 RBI’s.  Brody Atteberry pushed across the other Carmi run.

Post 224 is back in action today playing Fairfield in Harrisburg.  If Carmi wins, they’ll play Harrisburg at 7:30, following their matchup with Fairfield.  If they lose, Post 224 will be done for the year.
