With three board members absent and not much on the agenda, NCOE School leaders sped through their Wednesday night meeting clocking in at just about 20 minutes. Matthew McArthy, Heath Rush, and Frank Graves were all unable to attend. Following an executive session, the school board made hires including a replacement for Marsha Humphrey in Kayla Weaver and Melissa Dagley who will lead the drama department. Additionally, Unit 3 hired Mindy Staley as an elementary secretary, Richard Ozment as Jr High baseball coach, Bella Hall as Jr High Cheer coach, Tristan Childers as part-time cafeteria help, and the board renewed certified staff for the 2026/2027 school year. In regular session, updates were given on the sound in the gym with Superintendent Matt Vollman saying after upgrades, it’s better than it was and as good as it’s going to get without a massive investment. Also, the science lab asbestos abatement has been completed. In Principal reports, Mrs. Carter noted Pre-K screenings have been completed for the spring and the district will have 10 returning youngsters along with 9 new children. She says she’s hoping to fill the eleven remaining spots in the fall. The board is next scheduled to meet in regular session on the evening of May 20th.
