Mt. Carmel Police are currently investigating a shooting that occurred early this morning at the Super 8 Motel in Mt. Carmel. At approximately 12:35 a.m., Wabash County 911 received a call from an individual at the Super 8 stating someone had just fired gunshots through the door of his room. Police arrived on scene and encountered a male subject outside of the motel carrying a load weapon. Police were able to detain the subject without incident. That subject was then transported to the Wabash County Jail and is being detained for questioning. There were no reports of injuries at the motel. This shooting is still under investigation and information concerning the detained subject will be released later today. Mt. Carmel Police were assisted by the Illinois State Police, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, and the Wabash County States Attorney’s Office.
