Mill Shoals Village Financially Sound

The Village Board of Mill Shoals met in regular session this week and covered a number of items in the busy meeting.

Arlynne Davis with Botsch and Associates went over the previous fiscal year audit. She reported; overall the village had a clean audit but indicated the board should consider reviewing their utility rates.

The village was asked to provide additional information to validate a loan from People’s National Bank. Village President Ron Gray and Treasurer James Murphy were authorized to sign for the loan of $160,000 plus bank fees.

The village board approved the annual tax levy and appropriations ordinance.

Morgan Doggett of Drew Lane Consultants confirmed the Lead Service Grant was submitted. Doggett also explained Wal Mart grants are announced every quarter and a registration account was being created to allow the village to apply for that grant.

Village Water Superintendent Wayne Carter stated most water customers were back on the Hamilton County Water district’s supply line. He said concerns about low water pressure would clear up as the water tower had to be re-filled and that was affecting water pressure.

The police car is ready, although a small leak from the water pump was identified and will be repaired.

The police officer was part of the meeting’s discussion concerning abandoned cars in the village. It was explained “junk cars” were becoming an eyesore, again, and that issued needed to be addressed. It was explained that will be one of the duties of the new police officer.

Village Clerk Heath Tullis said he would contact the Illinois Training and Standard Board immediately in hopes of timely reply.

In other matters, Village employees will receive a $300 Christmas bonus this year.

The board adjourned after setting the next meeting time for 7 p.m., Thursday, December 5th.
