Master Showmanship Contest at Illinois State Fair set for August 12

The 17th Annual Master Showmanship Contest at the Illinois State Fair is scheduled for Friday, August 12 beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Junior Livestock Barn.

Each year the Master Showmanship Contest recognizes 4-H youth who have excelled at showing three species of livestock: sheep, cattle, and swine at a countywide contest. The contest is a great public relations opportunity for farm broadcasters to support youth in agriculture at the county and state level. Last year we had more than 60 participants and we expect just as many this year!

County Contest Coordinators were sent registration information for the event and were encouraged to work with their local broadcaster for assistance and support at their local event. This support could include announcing at the county event or to be on hand to interview participants and winners for your broadcast. It is an excellent opportunity to be out in public supporting an educational and rewarding youth event.

If you would like to have the contact information of your County’s Contest Coordinator, please contact Krista Temple at (309) 557-2005 or at [email protected] for that information. We would also like to know if you would be able to assist at the state contest by July 15. Assistance at the state event could include helping to announce in one of the three show rings, hand out awards, and interview participants and winners. If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact our office. Final details for the state contest will be sent to confirmed broadcasters by the end of July.
