The Carmi-White County Volleyball team defeated Newton last night in the IHSA 2A Regional Championship at Hamilton County in two sets; 25-14 & 25-11.
The Lady Bulldogs improve to 35-2 on the year as they win their 3rd consecutive regional title, and their 4th regional title in 5 years.
Carmi moves on to the Benton Sectional where they will face Carterville in the semifinal round on Tuesday at 6 PM. If the Lady Bulldogs win on Tuesday they will advance to the Sectional Championship to face either Fairfield or Massac County.
In other IHSA Regional Championship matches from last night;
At the 1A Thompsonville Regional, Edwards County defeated Wayne City in two sets.
At the 1A Elkville Regional, NCOE defeated Cisne in two sets.
At the 2A Mt. Carmel Regional, Fairfield defeated Benton in two sets.
At the 2A Vienna Regional, Massac County defeated DuQuoin in two sets.
At the 2A Greenville Regional, Nashville defeated Breese Central in two sets.
At the 2A Effingham Regional, Effingham defeated Teutopolis in two sets.
At the 2A Red Bud Regional, Belleville Althoff defeated Red Bud in three sets.
Best of luck to the Carmi-White County Girls Cross Country team, as well as Andrew Benham who will take part in the IHSA 1A Sectional tomorrow at Trenton-Wesclin.
Numerous area teams including six teams from the Black Diamond Conference qualified for the IHSA Football playoffs that will begin this weekend.
